School Program Volunteer Orientation Tuesday, August 22, 2017 9:00 am- 2:00 pm
Registration required. Are you a Naturalist at heart? Do you want to share the wonders of our natural world with 5th graders and 2nd graders? Well then, Paris Mountain State Park needs you!
School program volunteers are friends of Paris Mountain State Park who volunteer their talents and time to the park’s Discover Carolina school programs. They are adults of all ages who want to share their enthusiasm for our natural world, and appreciation for the treasure we have in Paris Mountain State Park.
Volunteers must enjoy working with school children, and appreciate the chance to get exercise from lots of walking! Our experienced volunteer naturalists and Interpretive Ranger will train you. Some School Program Volunteers assist with standards-based 5th grade Aquatic Ecology and 2nd grade Life Cycling programs, helping students take measurements to evaluate the water quality within the park.
School Program Volunteers with a Naturalist background (or who wish to become more of a naturalist) lead 2nd grade students around Lake Placid on a Nature Hike, or assist 5th graders in a Forest Ecology hike. Some School Program Volunteers deliver pre-visit kits to schools.
All School Program Volunteers must attend a training/orientation session on August 22nd from 9 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., which will meet at Park Center. Bring a picnic lunch. Plan to walk on the trails. To find out more, and to register for a training session, email Ranger Cathy Taylor at firstname.lastname@example.org or call the park office at 244-5565.
